Low-end wines / spirits help?

Hi,

This question is purely for curiosity – I certainly don’t plan on drinking these types of drinks :-P
I drink quality, sparingly :-)

Why is it generally understood that low-end Fortified Wines or spirts (MD, Night Train, Thunderbird, Buckfast etc) are ‘bad for you’?

It is because you’ll wake up with one helluva Hangover or does it do something worse to your physical body / state of mind in time?

I guess, what are the effects (physical and psychological) or drinking so called ‘cheap bum wines’?

Thanks in advance :)

There are some tannins and other nasties in the cheap stuff that are not quite as nice as the expensive stuff, but not enough to worry about.

However, if you are an alcoholic, you often cannot afford the good stuff. Especially if you’ve been one for a while, and have lost your job due to your drinking, etc. Then, it is the amount of alcohol you are consuming that becomes the problem. A bottle of cheap wine won’t kill you (although you might feel like death the next morning!), but several bottles a day over time will.
