If you stop drinking alcohol, does your liver repair itself?
Do not drink spirits, but do drink quite a lot of wine, red and white, in the course of the week (more than the recommended limits for a male). Don’t know if my liver is damaged or not, but I have heard that if it is, it can repair itself – is this true? Or is it just wishful thinking?
It does. The liver and skin are the only organs capable of regenerating. By staying off the alcohol for a few days your liver should be back up to speed. It is designed to break down toxins, after all!
To give it a boost, some people advocate Milk Thistle to help with the liver. Don’t think there’s any hard scientific facts to support this but it’s been used for years. Boots sell it but its about £8 for 30 tablets.
