gift to bring to china?
I’m going to china this summer(have not been there fore nearly 7 years)
it really is a pain to shop for Gifts in america since everything here is pretty much “made in china”
We’ve made a list and have only came up with
California Wine
stamps
US coins/money
but I was just thinking about how china itself doesn’t necessarily have things it makes for other countries.
so, does anyone know anything common/unique/useful here in America that China does not have?
I need Gift Ideas for…
cousins (ages 18, 21 and 24)
grandparents
aunts and uncles (age range late 40′s to mid 50s)
any ideas, advice, would be greatly appreciated =)
thanks in advance!
For men, wine is a good gift, especially from California. Also other American alcohol like Southern Comfort. Problem is, you have to buy it at the duty free shop, so the choice is limited, and you are usually only permitted to bring one bottle per passenger, although coming into China, I was never searched.
American cigarettes are readily available in China and cheaper than most good Chinese brands (I’m dying to get my hands on a pack of Panda’s…and I’ll probably die because of them…), so perhaps cigars would be a good choice for men.
For older people, typical American sweets and treats make a good gift. Maple syrup and maple sweets, salt water toffee, fudge, smoked cheddar and stuff like that.
For the ladies, genuine Native wearable art and handicraft is also a hit. I once brought several Native American bracelets, pendents, earings and chokers, and the girls were crazy about them.
Brand name perfumes and cosmetics are always appreciated by women, especially those hard to find or expensive like Clinique which is a brand that my female friends really like but cannot find easily in China…Japanese brands of cosmetics are also popular and chic.
Once I brought my own little stove-top espresso maker and supply of coffee for my trip. My friend got so addicted to espresso that I gave her the coffee maker when I left. Now she gets her supply of coffee beans at Starbucks. So a little stove-top Italian-style coffee maker might be nice for a young hip person.
